The year is 1959, the play is set in a French military hospital. Gustave, Philippe and Henri are hatching a plan to escape. Once the three lonely inmates are fired up by the idea of a trip over the garden wall, “Heroes” spirals into a comedy of madcap illusions about the need to fantasize and our longings to escape lives of eternal emptiness.

From the legendary Circus Oz, Joel Salom has devised a witty and innovative show that combines technology and live music with rhythmic juggling and a laser light show. Also featuring Erik the Dog - a sharp, irreverent, smooth-talking Terrier with attitude.

This adaptation of acclaimed illustrator/author Shaun Tan’s award winning book is a truly warm and magical experience for all. It is a wordless play, a mix of digital projection of Tan’s exquisite images, performance and the excellence in puppetry typical of from Spare Parts Puppet Theatre. Tan’s work has the ability to transcend social, cultural and age barriers.

“As You Like It” features Jaques, a chronically melancholy pessimist, and Rosalind, the Christian heroine, who recognizes life’s difficulties but holds fast to a positive attitude. “As You Like It” provides opportunities for its characters to discuss a host of subjects (love, aging, the natural world, and death) from their particular points of view. In the end, the enjoyment that we receive from the play’s comedy is reinforced and validated by a humanistic Christian philosophy gently woven into the text.

Show C - POSSUM MAGIC - THE MUSICAL

Possum Magic written by Mem Fox and illustrated by Julie Vivas, is the tender tale of baby possum Hush, made invisible by Grandma Poss in an effort to keep her safe from snakes. The adventure begins when Grandma is unable to reverse the “bush magic” spell and both she and Hush set off across Australia to try to find a cure. This is a work full of imagination, charm and humour, featuring larger than life-sized puppets, original music and a cast of multi-talented performers.

Show D - SHAKESPEARE’S R&J - COMEDY/DRAMA

R&J is an innovative, sexy new interpretation of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy. Set in the repressive atmosphere of a Catholic boys school, four young students decide to stage Romeo and Juliet for their own enjoyment, but gradually immerse themselves in the themes of secret and forbidden love.

YIPA is unique in that it is not a School Festival, it is non-competitive and it affords young people from all walks of life the opportunity to participate.

Through music, games, songs and dance this acclaimed Patch Theatre production inspires the creativity, imagination and exuberance of childhood. Emily Loves to Bounce blends the characters from three of King’s stories: “Henry and Amy”, “Patricia” and “Emily Loves to Bounce” into one bouncy, fun-filled show.
